Walter Leblanc was a Belgian artist who worked with geometric abstract monochromes. In the 1950s he created light-based relief series in sand. In 1959, torsion became the most important design element. By twisting and turning paper, cardboard or threads on or in surfaces, three-dimensional structures and sculptures were created. In the process, Leblanc often worked serially. Based on a tutorial by Varun Vachhar, I was able to bring the lithograph “Torsie-vorming in 6 phasen” by Walter Leblanc from 1978 to life.

Refraction is the bending of light when light travels from one material into another, based on a change of speed, changing the light’s direction. The amount of bending is based on the density of the materials( representing how fast the light travels through the material ) and is called “index of refraction”. Refraction can be seen in the real world by putting a pen into a glass of water, when swimming, looking on a glass statue, in gems and so on.

In collaboration with Bonsma & Reist we create every season and based on a current play in the theater a new interactive animation for Junge Bühne Bern. This seasons «Wirrwarr auf dem Olymp» created the basis for the clouds animation which funnily reminds me a little of the Simpsons 😉
