The Stadtgalerie Bern shows, communicates, produces and promotes contemporary art. As a municipal institution and part of Kultur Stadt Bern, it sees itself as a place for the public to engage with art and central issues of our time. For over 50 years, the Stadtgalerie has been showcasing Bernese art, placing it in an (inter)national context and creating space for dialogue and exchange.
In collaboration with the graphic design duo Kornhaus Atelier, I was able to develop the gallery’s new website. With scalable typography, lots of white space, overlays and a clear set of style sheets, the website has a timeless and aesthetic appearance. But the site is also impressive under the bonnet: the curator can independently record exhibitions and events, simply link them together, add a read more function, archive and document them and do so in two languages with a synchronisation function for certain content. Exhibitions were recorded until 2009 in order to visualise the comprehensive archive of the Stadtgalerie.
