The Kunstmuseum Thun presents four to five temporary exhibitions a year, mainly of contemporary art. In addition to themed and monographic special exhibitions, a collection exhibition is organised each year, which presents some of the rich holdings from a particular perspective. Art education has a firm place in the museum: it supports a wide range of programmes across all generations in deciphering the language of art and leaves room for individual interpretations.
In collaboration with the Bernese graphic design duo Bonsma & Reist, I developed the museum’s new website. The heart of the website is the online catalogue, which consists of an interface to the E-Museum Plus software, in which all the museum’s works are managed. The interface has now made the first works visible and accessible to the public. The works can be discovered according to various attributes such as colours, epochs and themes. Many works also have audiovisual content and texts have been recorded in plain language.
While the site appears simple and uncluttered, there is a lot going on technically under the bonnet: works are kept in sync every minute and performance-optimised indexed and loaded, exhibitions are automatically sorted, displayed and archived, flexible components allow editors to easily compile content and the site is bilingual in German and English. WordPress was used as the CMS of choice.
