Since its foundation in 2006, the Junge Bühne Bern has been committed to children and young adults who are enthusiastic about theatre and want to let off steam on stage. In addition to the numerous projects with children and young people from the greater Bern area, the Junge Bühne has also long been committed to the integration of asylum seekers and Swiss nationals. Several choreographers, theatre teachers and musicians are involved in supporting the more than 200 club members to ensure that the Junge Bühne Bern can continue to help shape Bern’s cultural landscape in the future.
In close collaboration with the graphic design studio B&R, which has been designing the theatre’s posters since 2011, I was able to implement the new website. The aim was to merge the site with the six-monthly, beautifully designed programme booklet. I developed a web framework based on JavaScript and HTML5 to bring the colours, graphics and animation of the print into the digital world. As the target group is both children and adults, the site had to have a playful character and so we invested a lot of time in experiments, interaction design and effects. In addition to design and interaction, a large part of the work also involved simplifying and digitalising the processes. For example, I developed a customised reservation tool that not only gives guests the opportunity to make a reservation outside of office hours, but also simplifies admission and checkout for employees.
